TasCOLT
The next step to Tasmania's telecommunications of the future

TasCOLT is an advanced, low cost, fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) telecommunication network that will deliver services to Tasmanian homes, businesses, hospitals and schools at speeds of up to 400 times faster than today's DSL-based broadband networks **, opening the door to a vast array of new and exciting services.

TasCOLT uses optical fibre cables to deliver services to you. Optical fibre is the ultimate telecommunication medium. It has almost limitless bandwidth making it future proof and ideal for the ever-increasing bandwidth needs of new services.

TasCOLT will initially connect 1000 premises in New Town, South Hobart and Devonport. We anticipate construction of the network commencing around the second quarter (April - June) of this year. The connection to your home or business will be installed FREE of charge for a standard installation.

TasCOLT is being sponsored and part-funded by the Tasmanian Government through the Department of Economic Development and is supported by the Tasmanian Electronic Commerce Centre. TasCOLT is backed by an impressive list of local and international partners, convened and led by Australian company CEOS Pty Ltd , that wish to make Tasmania a showcase of the benefits of fibre-to-the-home ultra-broadband networks.

TasCOLT will be constructed by your power utility Aurora Energy and the services will be retailed by your local retailer TasTel.

If you are in the planned footprint areas don't commit yourself to other broadband options until you have had an opportunity to trial the services that tasCOLT will offer.

We assure you that it will be an exhilarating and rewarding experience.

** Based on an ADSL line rate of 256kbps full duplex.
